High-ductility ribbed carbon steel bars embedded in concrete to absorb tensile, shear, and seismic bending forces.
LEVEL 1: QUICK UNDERSTANDING (EXECUTIVE SUMMARY)
INVESTORS & DEVELOPERSHigh-ductility ribbed carbon steel bars embedded in concrete to absorb tensile, shear, and seismic bending forces.
Longitudinal reinforcement in concrete columns, beams, and foundations, Transverse confinement stirrups (etrieri) for shear and seismic ductility
01. TECHNICAL OVERVIEW & ENGINEERING CHARACTERISTICS
Reinforcing steel provides the tensile and ductile capacity that plain concrete lacks. Under Romanian seismic code P100-1/2013 and Eurocode 2 (SR EN 1992-1-1), high ductility class B or C steel (such as BST500S / B500B / B500C) is strictly mandated for structures in seismic zones (ag ≥ 0.20g). Ribbed surface geometry ensures mechanical bond adhesion with the surrounding cement matrix.
02. CONSTITUENTS & MANUFACTURING SPECIFICATION
- ▸Hot-rolled micro-alloyed carbon steel or tempcore heat-treated steel
- ▸Controlled carbon equivalent value (CEV ≤ 0.50%) ensuring high weldability
- ▸Ribbed surface profile according to SR 438-1 / SR EN 10080
✓ ADVANTAGES & STRENGTHS
- •High yield strength (500 MPa) coupled with critical plastic elongation ductility
- •Identical thermal expansion coefficient to concrete (approx. 10×10⁻⁶ K⁻¹), eliminating internal thermal shear
- •Fully weldable (tempcore process) with certified chemical composition
- •100% recyclable material with high scrap circularity
⚠ LIMITATIONS & RISK FACTORS
- •Susceptible to rapid corrosion if concrete cover is insufficient (<25-50mm depending on exposure class)
- •Severe loss of yield strength at temperatures above 500°C without adequate concrete fire cover
- •Requires certified bending schedules (fasonare) to avoid micro-fractures at tight bend radii
