LEVEL 1: QUICK UNDERSTANDING (EXECUTIVE SUMMARY)
INVESTORS & DEVELOPERSHeavy-duty waterproofing sheets modified with SBS elastomers or APP plastomers with non-woven polyester or fiberglass reinforcement.
Below-grade foundation waterproofing against hydrostatic groundwater pressure (sub basements), Flat roofs, terraces, balconies, and parking decks
01. TECHNICAL OVERVIEW & ENGINEERING CHARACTERISTICS
Polymer-modified bituminous waterproofing membranes manufactured according to SR EN 13707 (roofs) and SR EN 13969 (foundations). SBS (Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene) modification provides exceptional cold flexibility (down to -20°C) and elastic recovery. APP (Atactic Polypropylene) modification provides high UV and heat resistance (up to +130°C). Typically applied in dual-layer torch-applied or self-adhesive configurations.
02. CONSTITUENTS & MANUFACTURING SPECIFICATION
- ▸Distilled bitumen modified with SBS synthetic rubbers or APP polymers
- ▸Reinforcement matrix: Heavyweight spunbond non-woven polyester (180-250 g/m²) or reinforced glass fiber fleece
- ▸Surface finish: Talc, sand, PE film, or mineral slate granules (ardezie) for UV protection
✓ ADVANTAGES & STRENGTHS
- •Robust mechanical thickness (3.5 - 5.0 mm per layer), resisting on-site puncture and aggregate backfill damage
- •Multi-layer system provides double safety redundancy
- •Proven 30+ year lifespan when properly detailed and protected
- •Self-healing micro-elastic properties under SBS formulations
⚠ LIMITATIONS & RISK FACTORS
- •Torch application requires open flame, demanding strict on-site hot work fire permits (permis de lucru cu foc)
- •Heavier freight weight compared to single-ply synthetic membranes
- •Requires dry, primed concrete substrate (primer bituminos) prior to installation
